Interim Construction Project Manager Ref: PHS9082.

Company: Leading "Research led" Higher Education Institution. Annual turnover c.£100m.

Requires: Interim Construction Project Manager.

Background: The University has obtained funding from internal and external sources for significant expansion of its Research and Commercial Outreach infrastructure. This includes a number of major projects:
  • The Environment Centre. Now substantially complete this is a research centre for "Environmental Sciences".
  • A £15m development scheduled for completion in June 2005. This will be a state of the art research and development centre for computing and communications.
  • A £9.5m extension to the management School. This is to be delivered by the end of 2005.
  • A new facility for an Institute of Advanced Studies in Management and Social Sciences (£3m). This is scheduled for delivery in summer 2005.

    A project Executive has been established for each project which meets monthly to discuss progress and agree actions where necessary. The combination of projects has led to a requirement for additional resource in our project management group.

Reporting to:Project Director but with no direct staff responsibility.
Key interfaces
* Director of Finance and resources
* Director of Estates
* User representatives
* External project managers
* External professionals (architects, QS, etc.)
* Contractors

Responsibilities:
  1. Management of one or two of the above projects.
  2. Deliver the project(s) to time and to budget.
Candidate requirements:
  1. Project manager with previous experience of construction projects essential.
  2. Used to working in a complex environment to tight deadlines.
  3. "Team player" with excellent man management and communication skills
  4. No prior experience of Higher Education required

Location: North West based at the University with some limited travel.

Duration: 9 -12 months

Start date: ASAP

Daily Rate: £400 - £600 + expenses.
