Management of planned absence

Management of longer term planned absence due to parental leave, secondments, career breaks, sabbaticals, education, civic and voluntary work needs to be planned.

This can be accomplished by:

  1. Reallocation of work within the organisation
  2. Internal substitution, perhaps as a developmental opportunity, temporary promotion or secondment
  3. Interim management for project, operational or strategic roles where internal cover is not available, providing the specialist skills and knowledge needed

Successfully managing absence sends a positive message to employees since it recognises their value and provides the basis for the planned stability they require.
